Learning outcome #2 is for students to be able to integrate their ideas with those of others using summary, paraphrase, quotation, analysis, and synthesis of relevant sources. In the final draft of Project #2, my use of sources includes providing context before quoting authors’ articles and essays by paraphrasing, quoting the text, then analyzing, and lastly, creating my synthesis to display my own views on the subject matter. I feel like this project displayed my best efforts in those things listed above because I spent a lot of time making sure everything was said as well as I could manage to get my point across. I used sources like Nicholas Carr’s Is Google Making Us Stupid? and Kevin Kelly’s Technophilia. I chose these works because they seemed very interesting to compare and put in conversation with each other. I enjoyed being able to provide my own thoughts on how Carr and Kelly’s views differ or line up, along with how mine are different or not from theirs. These projects show how I have improved on integrating my ideas with evidence. I feel as if I just used to drop a quote and leave it floating there, then move on to the next part of the essay. However, after these projects, I think I have been productive in adding more explanations to the quotes and how they correlate with my thinking. I also believe that I improved my ability to paraphrase or summarize what a quote says, using more of my own words rather than letting the quotations dominate my work.
